DETAILS:
Who is guiding the trips?
Trips are guided by local outdoor educators with professional experience leading youth and have Wilderness First Aid certification. Each trip will be led by 2 educators. Guide names are listed on each trip description.
What about food and Equipment? Participants bring their own lunch and water bottle. Group snacks and specialized equipment (backpacks, kayaks, etc.) for each outing is provided. Participants will receive a pre-trip email with the itinerary and a list of clothes and equipment suggested for each outing.
How do scholarships work? The cost per trip helps cover the guides, transportation, equipment, and snacks. We don’t want any youth to be turned away for lack of funds so we offer full scholarships to those in need. We ask that participants pay the highest amount that they can. Scholarship funding is provided by the North Valley Community Foundation and the Paradise Recreation & Parks District. Participants can request scholarships for up to 2 trips per season.
What if I don’t have a ride to the meeting locations? Trips include van transportation from the park and ride lot on Hwy 32/Hwy99 in Chico and the PRPD Terry Ashe Center at 6626 Skyway in Paradise. If participants cannot find a ride to either of these meeting locations, please contact the organizer, Kelly Munson, to coordinate additional transportation arrangements.
Can I drive myself? For trips in Butte County, participants are welcome to drive themselves. For longer trips, such as Lassen National Park, we ask that everyone travel together in the PRPD van.
What if I have other questions? Feel free to contact the program coordinator Kelly Munson at 207-650-2498 or munlark4@gmail.com.
